Westcon and snom Augment Portfolio with Lync Optimized and Lync Qualified HandsetsProviding resellers and end users with more choice and easier deployment at a competitive price
Crawley, UK, 30th July 2014 -Today Westcon announced a new UK and European programme to actively promote HP4110 and HP4120 desktop IP phones that are optimised for Microsoft Lync, available from snom technology AG, a leading developer of IP desktop phones and communications solutions. The desktop IP phones provide customers in the UK and Europe with a cost-effective Lync optimised solution, providing easier deployment and plug and play capability. The programme will include: sales training, webinars, face to face training, and additional education programmes helping the channels widen their portfolios by offering Lync Optimized and Lync Qualified handsets.
Nick Wright, European Product Manager, Westcon comments, “By incorporating the HP Lync optimised handsets from snom into our portfolio we are providing customers with choice of ‘qualified’ and ‘optimised’ Lync phones. Offering customers a Lync certified endpoint at a competitive price with limited touch time to deploy the handset, and with faster configuration.”
Microsoft has created the designations ‘Optimised for Lync’ and ‘Qualified for Lync’ to distinguish between purpose built Lync-only end points running Microsoft Lync Phone edition firmware and standards-based SIP business phones which are tested and compatible with Lync.
Both destinations mean that the phones do not require gateway interoperability and offer administrators the ability to manage the system with capabilities, such as direct provisioning and configuration from the phone to the Lync server and remote Lync server updates to the devices. The key difference is that Lync Qualified phones will work in a Lync environment and an IP PBX environment concurrently; they are not limited to use only with Lync.
snom and Westcon are providing resellers and end users with a choice whether to deploy ‘Lync Optimised’ handsets or ‘Lync Qualified’ handsets depending on the customer’s requirements. For businesses that require customisation of their voice communications a ‘Lync qualified phone’ that can support a broad range of IP PBX and rich collaboration features is recommended. For organisations requiring end points that are PC centric and require no telephony the ‘Lync optimised phones’ are a popular choice.
“We are delighted at the growing relationship with Westcon Group, it is an excellent opportunity for both companies and we now have both our own linked qualified handsets and our high-quality phone for Lync users who desire an Optimized handset.” said Ciaran Bolger Sales Director for snom UK “We now have an expert Lync distribution partner and a complete end-to-end offering on Certified and Optimized handsets which have been increasingly well taken by Lync systems integrators.“
